In Western culture, the moon has been believed to have some supernatural powers. The English word ''lunatic'' implies that the celestial body could affect human mental states. Indeed, I've read that criminologists found some association between the phases of the moon and the number of crimes. They speculated, in the article, that the lunar gravitational effects may affect propensity for deviant behaviors. I'm not sure how this bullshit has developed after then. Tell me if you know what happened to the crap.
